Seven roads to revenge : a Ralph Compton novel

Stowers, Carlton. (Author).

The Civil War is over and the soldiers have come home. Carl Novak isn't the only veteran in his hometown of Wolf Creek, Texas, but he is the only one who fought for the Union. Still, it hasn't been an issue for most of the people in town. They know that Carl is a good man whose choice was driven by strongly held beliefs. Most folks just want to put the war behind them--most folks... But there are some for whom the wounds still fester, and they are seeking revenge. When they murder Carl's beloved wife, they leave his ten-year-old daughter, Lucy, so traumatized that she won't speak. Leaving her with friends, Carl sets out to track down the killers, but he's about to find out that there are many roads to revenge.

Summary

Ralph Compton Seven Roads to Revenge

Carl Novak returned to the Texas hill country after fighting in the Civil War, but unlike most of his neighbours, Carl didn't fight for the Confederacy. He tries to resume his life as a farmer with his wife and three children. One day, when returning from an overnight trip to buy a calf, he finds his home burned to the ground and his wife and sons murdered. His young daughter escaped the slaughter by hiding in the fields. She is so traumatised that she refuses to speak. Carl has one clue: a group of strangers has just left town. Carl is determined to track them and exact his revenge.
