Raj's rule (for the bathroom at school)

Button, Lana, 1968- (Author). Aly, Hatem. (Added Author).

Raj has one steadfast rule: never use the bathroom at school! Of course, it can be challenging to follow this rule. After all, sometimes, a person's gotta go! So Raj has come up with a series of how-to rules to help him "hold it" - avoid all liquids; stay very still at recess; squeeze your knees tight, stay away from funny friends who might make you laugh too hard, and at all costs, avoid sneezing. But, inevitably, Raj ends up accidentally breaking his own rule with a big "Ahh-choo!" Then he has to use the school bathroom, and he realizes that it's not so bad after all. So he lets go of his old rules, and now he can drink from the fountain, enjoy his juice box, play at the water table, laugh at Kyle's jokes, and even stay to play after school! Raj's new rule: Just go when you need to! Ahhhhh

Summary

Raj's Rule (for the Bathroom at School)

Raj has one rule: he never uses the bathroom at school. It's just not the same as the one at home. All day, he avoids bathroom trips. Easy enough, since he lives by these tips: Don't linger at the sink. Stay away from anyone who makes you laugh. Watch out for distractions, especially schoolwork. And sit still: no running, jumping, cartwheels, or sneezing. Until one day-- achoo! --Raj has to break his own rule. After he faces his fear and uses the bathroom at school, Raj feels different. He doesn't have to rush! He can try new things, laugh, explore ... even enjoy his work. He can stay awhile and play. Raj discovers things are better if you just go when you need to. Told in speech bubbles with bright, lively art showing a diverse group of kids, this is a riotous rhyming read-aloud with an empathetic take on facing a common fear.
