Cam was the speed-chasing playboy and Ethan the taciturn waterman. But former street hustler Philip Quinn was the stylish city dweller who took one look at Dr. Sybill Griffin and fell hard. Sybill made her mark in observational psychology, always ten paces back from the action. This time Philip wont let her avoid the fray. He finds Sybill attractive in ways he refuses to admit. When her relationship to his brother Seth is uncovered, Philip must reconcile his needs and hers with those of Seth. This final novel in the Quinn Brothers trilogy is equally as strong as the prior two (e.g., Rising Tides, Audio Reviews, LJ 11/1/98). Guy Lemonier is terrific at vocalizing Philip and particularly Sybill, whose cold, unemotional facade gives frosty new meaning. Roberts is at her best here, from the multifaceted characterizations to the carefully crafted plot twists. This, and the other titles in the series, are excellent additions to fiction collections.Jodi L. Israel, Jamaica Plain, MA (c) Copyright 2010. This is the final installment of Roberts's juicy Chesapeake trilogy‘one volume for the romance of each of the mighty Quinn brothers: Cam, Ethan and, now, Phillip, the bronze god whose Italian suits hide the scars of bullet holes on his chest. Like his brothers, Phillip was a tough street kid who was rescued and adopted by Ray and Stella Quinn. After the deaths of their adoptive parents, the men have come together in the bay town of St. Chris, Md., to build boats and raise Seth, the last abused kid Ray took in before he died. Phillip, whose plans include women but not much love, falls for Dr. Sybill Griffin, a repressed academic who studies social groups so that she doesn't have to participate in them. As Phillip messes with her well-ordered agenda, she tries to keep secret that she is Seth's aunt; when discovered, she sets out to make amends for his terrible mother. With bright dialogue and lots of heart, Roberts provides a safe harbor for Phillip and Sybill‘and for her many fans. (Jan.) (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved

The long-awaited conclusion to the Quinn brothers trilogy, which includes Sea Swept and Rising Tides, can easily stand on its own. Urbane Phillip divides his time between his work as a Baltimore advertising executive and his hobby as an Eastern Shore boatbuilder, deliberately burying all traces of his troubled youth until the arrival of a woman and a 10 year-old boy. The woman, Dr. Sybill Griffin, may be out to destroy his family, and the boy is Seth, Philip's adoptive brother, the one he promised his dying father he would raise as his own. Philip is soon infatuated with Sybill, a psychologist and best-selling author who claims to have come to the small town of St. Chris to do research. But her subject turns out to be the Quinns. Seemingly cold and dispassionate, Sybill is fascinated by the Quinn clan, who are not at all what she was expecting. It is gradually revealed that the three older brothers had all experienced the horrors of abuse, neglect, and crime before being adopted by Ray and his wife, who both, though now dead, still exert considerable influence on them. The prolific Roberts has once again come through with a winning contemporary romance enhanced by a concern with special issues. --Diana Tixier Herald
