Grieving the death of his beloved daughter and searching for a reason to carry on, widower James Hillyer decides on a whim to locate his first love, Odette, a girl he met on a summer trip to Quebec as a teenager. He manages to reconnect with her, but their reunion is interrupted by her estranged ex-con boyfriend, and it soon begins to look like he might have made a mistake by inserting himself into their lives.
