Thirteen-year-old Jenna Metcalf is searching for her mother, Alice, a scientist who studied elephants and mysteriously disappeared a decade earlier. To help her, Jenna hires Serenity Jones, a celebrity psychic who has lost her powers, and Virgil Stanhope, the detective originally assigned to her mother's case. The four narrators do an excellent job of voicing this poignant and mystifying novel. The listener hears the sadness and longing in Rebecca Lowman's reading of Alice; Mark Deakins and Kathe Mazur capture the repartee between Virgil the cop who relies on facts and instinct-following Serenity; and Abigail Revash does an excellent job as a young girl on an emotional roller coaster. VERDICT Recommended for the all libraries. ["A truly engaging read that crosses through the genres of mystery and the supernatural," read the review of the Ballantine hc, LJ 8/14.]-Ilka Gordon, Beachwood, OH (c) Copyright 2015.
