Excepting the odd joke, limerick, or waggish newspaper ad, these books mainly contain riddles presented in a Q-and-A format. Much of the humor is lame ("What do you call fudge made in the desert?" "Sandy candy"); [cf2]Holiday Howlers[cf1] seems disorganized, often featuring riddles about Valentine's Day, Halloween, and Christmas on one page. The color images resemble banal newspaper-ad art. There are four other fall 2003 books in this series. [Review covers these Make Me Laugh! titles: [cf2]Backyard Beasties, Holiday Howlers, Monster Mayhem,[cf1] and [cf2]Punny Places[cf1].] (c) Copyright 2010. Gr 1-3-These collections of riddles and jokes include such groaners as: "First Monster: `I'm on a seafood diet.' Second Monster: `What do you eat?' First Monster: `Whatever I see!'" The first book includes the obvious: jokes about Santa, ghosts, and turkeys, with no particular order or arrangement. Level of sophistication varies, from "What do you call a hungry dachshund in October? A hollow-weenie" to "Where do you go to celebrate Election Day? Political Parties." These titles are average fare-neither better nor worse than most joke books in your collections. One vibrantly colored cartoon appears on every other page.
