The swallows of Kabul
Set in Kabul, this novel shows the effects of the Taliban's rule on two couples. Mohsen comes from a family of wealthy shopkeepers whom the Taliban have destroyed, while his wife Zunaira can no longer pursue her career as a teacher. Atiq, a prison keeper who has adopted the Taliban ideology, struggles to keep his faith while his wife suffers from an incurable illness.
