Gr 10 Up-Predicting your boyfriend's every wish is easy, especially when you are in his head. Molly knows everything that Gideon thinks, and she uses that to be there when he wants her, to leave when he doesn't, and to fulfill his fantasies when the opportunity arises. However, when she catches him thinking of another girl during an intimate moment, Molly dumps him on the spot. And when a game of spin the bottle goes wrong, Molly ends up inside the head of Pilar, the hottest girl in school, dealing with her insecurities as well as her fantasies about Gideon. In this sequel to Inside the Mind of Gideon Rayburn (St. Martin's, 2006), one can't help wondering where all the strong female characters have gone. Pilar is a cardboard popular teen, differentiated only by her accent (she is from South America), which is transliterated on the page. Molly spends too much time in other characters' heads to ever assert much of a personality, though the tension that develops with her roommate smacks of authenticity. The wise teacher spouts platitudes that Molly can easily brush off, and the twist at the end and explanation gives pause rather than cause. Not as engaging or appealing as the first book, this title won't stretch the author's fans too far beyond the established base.-Chris Shoemaker, New York Public Library (c) Copyright 2010. The teens of Midvale Prep are back again. After Molly and Gid break up, she switches amazingly from being inside his head to entering the thoughts of his new girlfriend, Pilar Benitz-Jones. As in the other series titles, pot smoking, drinking, and sex form much of the drama, but this entry adds more depth as Molly and Gid almost lose their scholarships, and Molly gradually realizes that even beautiful, rich girls have huge insecurities. The tongue-in-cheek humor, posh prep-school lifestyle, and teen romantic angst make this perhaps the most enjoyable and believable chapter in the lives of Midvale's preppies.--Bradburn, Frances Copyright 2009 Booklist

Miller picks up where she left off with Inside the Mind of Gideon Rayburn, as Molly continues to be able to see the world-and hear the thoughts-of Gideon, her boyfriend at Midvale Prep boarding school. This allows her to know how to keep him happy (like which underwear to don when he sneaks into her room). But there are disadvantages, too, and when he conjures up a sexy image of school hottie Pilar at an inopportune moment, Molly decides she must break up with him. But then she finds herself in someone else's head: Pilar's. Readers will again find Molly's Midvale world full of bawdy talk, pot smoking, and naughty pranks, but they will appreciate the smart insights, too. As Pilar and Gideon start a relationship-and Molly bounces from her head to his-she learns that being the girl every boy dreams of has some serious disadvantages, and that she needs to stop trying to "make myself into whatever Gid was going to like." Some plotting is a bit farfetched, but mostly this is fun fare-and deeper than a typical prep school series. Ages 14-17. (Sept.) © Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved.

Sassy, witty and smart prep-schooler Molly McGarry returns in this second Midvale Prep novel, and she is still lodged firmly in Gideon Rayburn's arms and mind, which means she's privileged to overhear each of his most intimate, silly and mundane thoughts, all with no filtering. Leveraging this unexplained ability, Molly becomes Gideon's ideal girlfriend, accommodating his every wish. This intimacy comes with a price, however, especially when Midvale's hottie, Pilar Benitez-Jones, pops into Gideon's thoughts at a very inopportune time. Dealing with Gideon's mental indiscretion is tough enough, but when Molly is bounced from Gideon's thoughts into Pilar's, things gets worse, as Gideon begins a quest to seduce Pilar. Although Midvale stands in as a stereotypical New England prep-school backdrop with several predictably spoiled characters, these elements take a backseat to Molly's no-holds-barred narration of each character's voice. Mature sexual themes, frank language and drug references make this text appropriate for older teen readers. (Fiction. YA) Copyright Kirkus Reviews, used with permission.
