Aquaman. Vol. 1, Unspoken water

DeConnick, Kelly Sue. (Author). Rocha, Robson. (Added Author).

He's lost his memory. And his kingdom. Can Arthur Curry find the hero within in order to reclaim his throne? The tides turn for the Sea King as superstar scribe Kelly Sue DeConnick (Captain Marvel, Pretty Deadly) and red-hot artist Robson Rocha (Teen Titans, Supergirl) take the rudder to steer Aquaman into uncharted waters. In the wake of "Drowned Earth," an amnesiac Arthur washes ashore on a remote island and ends up being cared for by a young woman named Callie, who's just a little too curious for comfort. And as a lifetime of horror movies has taught us, there's something strange going on in this island village. Aquaman needs to come to his senses quickly...or he might wind up sleeping with the fishes instead of chatting with them.

Writer DeConnick (Pretty Deadly) and artists Rocha (Supergirl) and Henriques (Deathstroke) usher in a new era in the adventures of Arthur Curry, better known as Justice League charter member Aquaman. Fans expecting a swashbuckling romp in the mode of the recent hit film might want to check their expectations, though, as this collection of Issues 43--47 of the ongoing series delivers a tale simultaneously grander and more contemplative, opening with our hero living among the denizens of the small seaside village Unknown Water, with no memory of his life before washing ashore there. After Arthur's involvement with an enigmatic woman named Caille--who appears to hold the key to understanding why the ocean seems intent on punishing the people of Unknown Water--leads to the discovery of a new enemy, he's forced to abandon his quest of discovering his origins in order to prevent the destruction of all life on Earth. VERDICT DeConnick is in no rush to offer any explanations for Arthur's new circumstances, which results in occasionally frustrating early chapters, but the story picks up in the second half and heads to a thrilling climax that upends Arthur's history and promises intriguing escapades to come.
