Entrepreneur Ventura presents a blueprint for creating a foundation of empathy, the often-underrated act of understanding, that will prepare teams for today's marketplace. Ventura unveils the seven faces of empathy, which describes and helps readers identify their empathy types, such as the convener, who anticipates needs of others. He then offers experiments to help readers feel other types of empathy, such as thinking of how one would feel cooking a recipe without knowing what to expect. These emotional exercises lay the groundwork for building empathy skills and taking them to the workplace. Interwoven are stories of how companies have missed the mark, as when Xerox had one of the first personal computers in the 1970s yet failed to empathize with customers' budding desire for them. Ventura also shares success stories, including Nike, a company that celebrates the successes of the product developers along with the professional athletes who use the gear. This book is easy to read and would appeal to a broad range of workplace types. It would also be of interest to teachers, coaches, and others in leadership roles.--Adams, Jennifer Copyright 2010 Booklist
