PreS-1-The latest installment in this Emmy-winning preschool series challenges young viewers to connect letters and sounds to build simple words. All the characters interact with objects formed out of boldly colored capital letters in eight self-contained episodes. Every segment features an adventure that can be solved only by building an appropriate word. For example, in "J-J-Jelly," Sheep and Bear must figure out a word that begins with "J" that will hold the jam they are making. In "Get Well Soon Soup," Ant is sick and Pig tries to spell out words that will make him feel better. Instrumental background music grounds each individual story, and the repetition of letter and word sounds builds confidence and encourages reading readiness. VERDICT A fun and valuable addition to libraries that serve the prereading population.-Anne Bozievich, Friendship Elementary School, Glen Rock, PA © Copyright 2018.
