Just as A Darker Shade of Magic (2015) had a slow plot build, so too does A Gathering of Shadows, in order to set the stage for an amazing crescendo that begins with the Element Games, a magical-abilities tournament. The story has beautiful language, strong characters, and a wee bit of romance, ensuring that fans of the series will not be disappointed in this sequel until they get to the white-knuckle ending and have to wait for the next installment.
