The "Taste of Home" editors have created another collection of family-friendly recipes chosen from their monthly magazine and readers' contributions. This is a standard cookbook ranging from appetizers through desserts, covering mainly hearty, American-style cooking. However, setting it apart are the individual blurbs introducing each recipe. These short statements on how the recipe was developed or how much it is enjoyed by the contributors' families give the book a personal, home-spun feeling. The large format, heavy paper, lavish color illustrations, and easy-to-read recipes make it a beautiful book as well. The recipes themselves vary from homey to surprisingly sophisticated, without too much reliance on prepared foods or canned soups, although there are some of those as well. Overall, the fact that these recipes are truly family favorites, rather than ones dreamed up in a test kitchen, makes this a cookbook that readers will enjoy and turn to for inspiration.
