At 37, New York career woman Jane Howe is stunned one day to find herself cooing over a stranger's child. Suddenly, she sees babies and pregnant women all around her. Could she be mom material after all? It doesn't take long to find out, for after some preliminary soul searching, Jane decides to adopt an infant girl from China. Between rushing around to complete all the items on her many lists and making room in her life for her new daughter, Jane must find time to stay just this side of sane. Along the way, readers become acquainted with the Chinamoms, Jane's support group of adoptive moms-to-be; her best friend, Ray; and her neighbor Peter, who may or may not be the man of her dreams. Sheehan, one of the original creators of the theatrical hit Tony 'n' Tina's Wedding, is also the adoptive mother of a Chinese daughter, and the emotions and drama of the experience certainly come through here. This debut novel is filled with touching and funny insights into the ups and downs of the adoption process. Recommended for all public libraries.-Anastasia Diamond, Cleveland P.L. (c) Copyright 2010.
