Hooked on Horror : A Guide to Reading Interests in Horror Fiction, 2nd Edition

Horror fiction, while dismissed by many librarians, accounts for huge sales and enjoys an expanding and devoted readership. In 1999, librarians Fonseca and Pulliam published the first edition of this work, intended as a reader's advisory work for their colleagues who knew little about the genre, listing horror novels, anthologies, and collections by single authors. The new edition updates the earlier work in these print categories (more than 825 fiction titles published between 1998 and January 2002) while adding some classic feature-length films. Young adult titles (e.g., by R.L. Stine), science fiction, and fantastic literature are not included. Material in the above formats is grouped together under various chapter headings (e.g., "Ghosts and Haunted Houses," "Vampires and Werewolves," "Comic Horror"). Annotations for entries are descriptive and nonevaluative. Similar titles under each entry can be found by using keywords tied to a subject index, a feature particularly useful to librarians. An annotated bibliography of horror short story collections and a collection development list of core titles are also included. ^BSumming Up: Recommended.
