Gr. 4^-8. These two books in the Kids Can Crafts series (Corking is a Kids Can Easy Craft title) have in common pleasing formats, plentiful step-by-step illustrations, and a variety of projects. Photos accompany directions in the book on beading, which is for older children. Sadler talks about supplies and explains how to make a simple beading loom as well as several nice-looking projects (mostly necklaces or bracelets), ranging from a simple single-strand bracelet to an intricately colored one made on a loom. Corking is for a younger audience than Beading. Cartoonlike artwork illustrates the text, which is clearly written but demanding enough to warrant an adult's help at first. Once the basics are learned, however, children will be able to use the handmade knitting device they will have created to knit tubes (corks) that can be used in such things as toys and headbands. --Stephanie Zvirin
