PreS-A cherub-faced little witch leads a cast of Halloween-costumed kids through a variety of movements. Clever pairings include leading a mummy in "Arms are for reaching," a werewolf in "Tails are for wagging," and a skeleton in "Bones are for shaking." In true trick-or-treat spirit, when the little witch takes off her mask and whisks away on her broom, the children are surprised but amused by what they see. This book is a delightful way for preschoolers to enjoy Halloween. The computer-generated and pencil graphics are clean and simple. The brightly colored monsters dance on a pure white background and the short phrases are in large black type. The images are not scary but in fact, once masks are removed, show warm and friendly kids from a variety of ethnicities. Perfect for storytime.-Linda M. (Preschool) One little witch leads her costumed friends in a marching, stomping, moaning Halloween celebration. Each simple spread illustrates one action related to the featured Halloween creature: the witch girl and her skeleton buddy shake it up to ""bones are for shaking""; she creeps across the pages with a smiling vampire for ""capes are for sneaking."" The friendly fun climaxes, as it should, with ""tummies are for treating."" But don't forget-""masks are for tricking, ""and in a surprise ending, a little-girl mask comes off to reveal a real little witch underneath, who re-joins her smiling witch mommy on the last page to wish everyone a Happy Halloween. The energetic movements throughout are preschooler-perfect (and sure to bring them to their feet), and the final twist is just the right trick for this age group-shivery fun without the fright. l.a.
